ABSTRACT: This study examines the role of early childhood education in reducing waste among young children. Teaching waste reduction early can lead to significant environmental benefits. Objectives included evaluating children's understanding of waste reduction, identifying effective educational practices, and assessing the long-term benefits of early waste reduction education. A survey design was utilized for its effectiveness in gathering comprehensive data. Purposive sampling was employed to select 180 children from preschools in Rivers State, Nigeria. Findings revealed that children exposed to waste reduction education demonstrated improved behaviors in reducing waste. Activities such as interactive lessons on waste reduction, hands-on projects, and community clean-up initiatives were particularly effective. The study recommended integrating waste reduction education into early childhood curricula to foster waste reduction behaviors from an early age.
